2/90 Toothville generation.

 It
all starts even before you're born. Baby teeth, aka "deciduous" teeth, begin forming in the womb. It's like the blueprint for a tiny, temporary tooth neighborhood.

Once you're born, these little tooth architects get to work, and by around 6 months, your first tooth might pop up – the grand opening of Toothville! Eventually, more teeth join the party, creating a full set of baby teeth.

But wait, there's more! As you grow, your jaw expands, and it's time for a makeover. Permanent teeth start pushing out the baby teeth, kind of like the older siblings taking over the cool treehouse. This process continues until you have a complete set of adult teeth – your permanent pearly whites.

So, your mouth is basically a construction zone with different phases, building both temporary and permanent teeth. It's like a dental adventure happening right in your mouth!

Let's dive into the timeline of tooth development and when specific teeth make their debut:

  1. Central Incisors: These are the front teeth and typically make their appearance between 6 and 10 months of age. They're the first ones to join the dental party.

  2. Lateral Incisors: Found next to the central incisors, these usually come in around 9 to 13 months. They're like the sidekicks to the central incisors.

  3. Canines (Cuspids): These are the pointy teeth and tend to emerge between 16 and 22 months. Picture them as the guardians, helping with tearing food.

  4. First Molars: The back teeth start making an entrance between 13 and 19 months. They're the early settlers in the molar neighborhood, assisting with grinding food.

  5. Second Molars: These join the scene between 25 and 33 months. They're like the reinforcements, completing the molar team for efficient chewing.

By the age of 3, most children have a full set of 20 primary (baby) teeth. Now, let's fast forward to the permanent teeth:

  1. Central Incisors (Permanent): The adult version replaces the baby teeth between 6 and 7 years.

  2. Lateral Incisors (Permanent): They follow suit, usually appearing between 7 and 8 years.

  3. Canines (Permanent): The permanent canines typically erupt between 9 and 12 years.

  4. First Molars (Permanent): These show up around 6 years, often before the baby molars fall out.

  5. Second Molars (Permanent): Between 11 and 13 years, the second set of molars fills in the back.

Lastly, the wisdom teeth, or third molars, usually make their presence known between the ages of 17 and 25. They're like the latecomers to the dental party, sometimes causing a bit of commotion when they arrive.

Furcation measurement - my sweet nightmare

In the hustle and bustle of my dental hygienist life, one thing always weighed heavy on my mind - accurately measuring furcation involvement. It seemed like an endless labyrinth of probing and uncertainty. That is until I stumbled upon a groundbreaking article by Karthikeyan et al.,whom even introducing a mathematical algorithm for furcation volume calculation. It was like this : (ROF-BOD)2 (RDCB) (HBOD-F) 2(ROF-COB) - have a fun! I am only joking! Nonetheless, armed with this newfound knowledge, I embarked on a journey of exploration. I embraced a simplified approach, categorizing furcation involvement into three grades. It was a practical solution that resonated with both my patients and me. Sure, challenges persisted - the complexities of different diagnostic techniques, varying examiner experience, and the ever-present cost concerns. But amidst it all, I found solace in the wisdom of Karthikeyan et al.'s holistic approach. By integrating multiple diagnostic methods, including c...
